Invasive Plant Ash Glaze
I've been exploring making glazes out of ash collected from burning invasive plants. I mix the ashes with local minerals to create a place-specific surface. I apply the Miscanthus glaze to round orb vases made of unprocessed local clay, straight from the ground. Together, they represent a place.You can read more about this project here, at Groundwork.
Close to the Ground
A body of work from a 2026 residency at Township 10, made exclusively using clay I dug from the ground on site, plant ashes from the property, and feldspar rocks sourced from nearby.You can read more about this project here, at Groundwork.
Woodfired work:
Many of these woodfired ceramic vessels are made with wild clay and local materials gathered in Western North Carolina. All of these pieces were fired in a wood kiln, where flame, ash, and reduction cooling create rich dynamic surfaces on raw clay— a collaboration with the fire and the many hands that tended it.
